Abstract
This paper presents the development and field validation of LiSa HyperHarness, an IoT-based smart safety harness designed to prevent fall-from-height events in Oil & Gas construction sites. The system was developed after market solutions proved unsuitable for Saipem requirements, mainly because they modified certified connectors or lacked sufficient autonomy. LiSa integrates sensorized connector units, a wearable data collector, virtual gates and a supervisory dashboard to activate monitoring only in work-at-height areas and verify continuous tie-off during real operations. GPS, inertial, barometric and proximity data support alarms, fall-factor estimation and remote supervision. Field tests in Karimun yard showed progressive improvement through iterative tuning: final testing generally achieved false positives below 15% and false negatives mostly below 5%, while highlighting electromagnetic interference as a key limitation. The results support a KPI-driven approach to smart PPE industrialization and demonstrate the feasibility of certification-preserving, data-enabled fall-prevention systems.
