This paper details an investigation using olfactometry to support odour regulation in Abu Dhabi. The investigation measured odour emissions from a cattle farm and found that odour release rates are much higher in the Emirate compared to similar facilities in Europe. Air pollutant dispersion modelling was carried out to further understand the extent of the potential impact on receptors near the farm. The modelling found that the adopted odour benchmark of 3 ouE/m3 as a 98th%ile would be exceeded at nearby properties and showed the need for emission reduction to minimize impact of unpleasant odour. The study also shows how the findings can assist in land use planning close to single farms or multiple farms so that odour does not infringe on the quality of life of the new inhabitants.
